Chapter 3

It was hard finding a suitable fit for the soiree Muler was organizing at his colossal house. I darted back and forth in the room while Stephanie and Jessica babbled their habitual nonsense about the rich bachelors who’d come from every angle in the world on the occasion. I stuck a confusing finger between my teeth in making a choice on matching the colors of my perfect blue satin skirt. I had come along with just a lazy bunch of blouses and mini-tops, which were to serve for a few couple of months before I could get paid on the job.

“Oh look who’s having a hard time matching the colors to go with this wonderful skirt. It’s such a shame you can’t ask the expert,” Stephanie bragged, pulling the finger out of my mouth. “You want to be seen as the bad bitch in town baby, you’ve got to learn from the Da Vinci of the arts.”

“I just don’t feel this is for me,” I argued.

“Nonsense Viola, I say you take one of these, wrap with this one and oh,” Jessica exclaimed, “I have just the perfect heels for a black bell like you my friend.”

“No, no, no…” I started but Stephanie placed a gentle finger across my lips that silenced the remaining words I was supposed to say.

“All you have to do is shine bright…” She whispered with her pancake-pleated lips to show off her expertise.

“And when she looked at it, she said--,” Jessica started.

“This is beautiful!” They both said unanimously. It seemed to be their rule and game. Looking expensive could only attract the expensive jet sets but that was never the sort of life I could easily integrate myself; having to dress gorgeously to give an impression that wasn’t relevant. I took a deep breath and then combed three fingers through my dark flushing hair with one hand while the other free hand smoothed my lips under an awful stare.

“These are your expensive clothes you’re giving me to attend a party Jessica,” I said.

“What are friends for?” She responded.

“Don’t e such a heck, no one will know you borrowed these clothes. You don’t live in a fairy tale world my darling.” Stephanie cautioned with a gentle sweep across my shoulders. I studied the beautiful lemon transparent blouse that stripped a few string around the chest level, stemming from the collar. It was an antique so to say and I could use four to five months of my savings to possess such exquisitely expensive blouse.

These girls dealt with the Georgio Armani’s and the Laurant Noir brands. Commoners didn’t get such brands at their disposal any day they wanted. Even at that, I felt an inner sense of guilt accepting to put on her blouse to attend a party at her boyfriend’s house. What will he think off me? He probably would know the dress and that was an unhealthy feeling at the thought of Muler. “It’s a beautiful dress but still,”

“And there is this bag, and this one,” she said, holding two brand new purses that dazed my glare.
